David Klatzow - Looking into Darkness

World-renowned, independent forensic investigator, David Klatzow, explores femicide in South Africa and the toxic masculinities that lead to it. This television documentary series of 9 x 46-minute episodes features emotive reconstructions, as well as fascinating interviews with police, prosecutors and defence attorneys. The haunted relatives and friends of the victims relive the terrible days of the murders and their aftermath, sharing their pain and loss. This is a country with a femicide rate six times the world average, where seven women murdered every day, most by intimate partners. Looking into Darkness goes beneath the statistics to unpack the reasons and social context of these horrific figures, offering insightful interpretation of the motivations of the killers, while never losing its grip on viewers. Klatzow keeps it all together, with acute observations, an unwavering commitment to justice and even at times sardonic humour. The series was commissioned by SABC 3, a channel of the national broadcaster, and is set to air later in 2024.
